We recently received a call from a Lady in Galway whose elderly Dad had a scheduled visit to the local fracture clinic in Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown following a fractured wrist. Her Dad was living in a very nice nursing home in Clonee and while he was relatively well, suffered with age-appropriate dementia.
The call resulted in her booking our service and she said would accompany her Dad to the appointment. On the day of the appointment we collected this Lady and her Dad from the Clonee Nursing home. Her Dad was a tall well-built man and while he was ambulant she offered him the choice of ordinary seating or wheelchair seating.
Knowing Connolly Hospital and having taken note of her Dad’s mild dementia, I suggested that her Dad use our wheelchair (available to all our clients) for the duration of the trip and the appointment. We arrived in plenty of time for his review appointment and I assisted him in his wheelchair into the waiting area of the outpatients department (a good five minute walk for the car). We agreed that I would return at an appointed time for the return trip back to the nursing home in Clonee.
Upon collection for the return leg of the journey I discovered that this Lady from Galway was a College professor with a busy career and schedule. I mentioned that we could offer her a Care Assistant for her Dad for his next visit and she was absolutely delighted. Effectively she would save a 6 hour return trip to Dublin and be comfortable in the knowledge that her Dad was in safe professional hands and able to rely on our vehicle equipment and personnel to ensure a safe, no fuss next visit to the fracture clinic in two weeks time. The appointment was made that very day and we hope to deliver a top class service for that client and her Dad.
At CareCabs we appreciate the trust that our clients place in us to act on their behalf in assisting their loved ones with important medical appointments.
